Have fun while sitting down
Every author should write a children’s book. It’s the best fun you can have while sitting down. Or second best, anyway.

I wrote my latest novel, White Raven, pretty well by accident. It was born out of a car-journey game I used to play with my small daughter 25+ years ago.
When I told my partner about the game, she persuaded me to write the story, thinking initially that it would be for children of the age my daughter was back then.
That morphed into a story for middle-grade kids, 9-12 year olds.
Then I got properly carried away and wrote a roughly related novel for teenagers/young adults, White Raven.
White Raven is half-and-half contemporary young fiction and science fantasy, and I can’t say which half was the most fun to research and write.
As an adult who no longer has school-age children, it’s easy to lose sight of the new generation’s values and challenges. I hope I have represented them fairly in White Raven.
As for the science fantasy side … a lot of research went into the world I created. It’s based on real science, though I have some doubts about whether physicists like Dr Laura Mersini-Houghton would whole-heartedly support the conclusions I’ve leapt to based on her excellent book Before the Big Bang.
The middle-grade novel, Shadowlands: The Poacher’s Trap, is almost ready for publication, and the picture books for younger readers are written but not illustrated.

After that?
Well, it’s back to adult fiction, that’s just how boring I am!
White Raven is available in certain bookshops, on Amazon of course https://amzn.eu/d/c1TzcbZ and Bookshop.org

Unfortunately, Shadowlands: The Poacher’s Trap, won’t be out in time for Christmas.
If you’re interested, you can listen to Laura Mersini-Houghton talk about her ideas on Youtube
